BEECH BEND PARK ANNOUNCES PRESS CONFERENCE TO NAME NEW WORLD RECORD-BREAKING WOODEN COASTER BOWLING GREEN, KY----- Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon in Bowling Green, Kentucky has called a press conference for Friday, October 28, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. at the park. Engineers and construction crews are racing against the clock to get 98% of the coaster's massive wooden structure in the air in time for the special announcement of the new ride's name. The park has received thousands of entries from all around the world in their competition to find a name for this new mega-ride, which will not only be the most twisted wooden coaster in a 7 state region, but will also feature a record breaking three incredible station fly-bys. At the press conference Dallas Jones, the park's owner, will announce the winner of the contest and reveal the eagerly awaited name. The person who submitted the winning name will be awarded season tickets to the park and will have the opportunity to be on the first train out of the station when the coaster opens on May 6, 2006. Beech Bend's stunning new coaster is also set to star in a one hour Discovery Channel documentary profiling the renaissance in the construction of traditional wooden coasters. An English television crew will be traveling all the way from London to film the announcement of the coaster name and to talk to attendees and enthusiasts as part of their program. Both press and visitors will have the opportunity to put their questions to the ride's designer, Jeff Pike of Great Coasters International, Inc. (designer of Thunderhead at Dollywood, recently voted the best wooden coaster in the world) and to Dallas Jones and staff. Attendees will also be invited to take an exclusive, guided tour of the construction site immediately after the press conference. The park will offer attendees ERT (exclusive ride time) on the Wild Mouse coaster after the construction tour giving people the rare chance to experience out-of-season thrill rides to whet their appetites for the May 6th opening of the new coaster.

'DISCOVERY CHANNEL' TO FEATURE VOYAGE CONSTRUCTION IN NEW SERIES SANTA CLAUS, IN----- A crew from The Discovery Channel will visit Holiday World later this week to film construction of The Voyage wooden roller coaster.

The four-day shoot will include a series of interviews about the design and construction of the park's record-breaking coaster, which will open in May of 2006.

The one-hour program will be part of the new Discovery series Building the Biggest, and will profile the design and construction of the 1.2-mile-long Voyage, along with two other wooden coasters scheduled to open next year.

"The series itself is six stand-alone films following some of the world's most ambitious projects currently under construction," says

Associate Producer Liz Collier. "Other subjects are as diverse as the NASA space station, the new Singapore subway, and the stunning diamond mines in Yellowknife."

Shot in high-definition format by a four-member crew from the U.K., Building the Biggest will also include the "human side" of roller

coasters, including interviews with coaster enthusiasts and the Koch family, who have owned and operated Holiday World for six decades. The series will air worldwide on The Discovery Channel next year.

Last month, a crew from the National Geographic Channel visited Holiday World to shoot interviews and Voyage construction footage for its two-hour documentary, Coasters: Riding Into the Extreme, which is slated to air in the spring. The park will also be featured in a Travel Channel special in 2006.

Holiday World will open its 60th anniversary season, along with The Voyage, on May 6, 2006. For more information, log on to

Something's going on at Dorney Park and Wild Wate Kingdom. I noticed this afternoon when I arrived that the Seaon Pass parking area had been closed off and there were some major piles of dirt around. I've not seen any formal announcements yet, but I'm guessing they are expanding the water park for next year.

UPDATE: Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom has announced the expansion of the water park with a new wave pool and private cabana's for the 2006 season.
