movieguy Posted March 13, 2006 Report Share Posted March 13, 2006 Gay Man Beaten In Hate Attack by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff March 12, 2006 - 8:00 pm ET (Wilmington, Delaware) A Wilmington man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly beat up another man because that man is gay. It happened Saturday morning in the 1500 block of Shady Brook Road. New Castle County police say 22-year-old Jason Cola was playing a game of pool with a 41-year-old man. Police say during the game, Cola exposed himself, threatened to kill the man and beat him with a metal broom handle. After a struggle, the man managed to get away and call 9-1-1. When officers arrived, the 41-year old victim’s head was bleeding. He told police he was attacked because of his sexual orientation. Police say Cola scuffled with officers when they tried to arrest him. One officer suffered minor injuries. The charges against Cola include hate crime, assault, menacing, resisting arrest and offensive touching.
