movieguy Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Gay Arson Victims Hit Again by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff Posted: August 23, 2005 12:01 am ET (Orlando, Florida) An Orlando area gay couple whose home was torched last month in what police say was a hate crime have now become the victims of robbery. Paul Day and Christopher Robertson returned to the burned out shell of their home on the weekend to retrieve some of their belongings only to find that someone had ransacked what was left of their mobile home. The few items of any value that were in the ruined home the young couple shared were taken. "I don't know if it was the same people or someone being opportunistic," Day told The Sentinel newspaper. "But they took their sweet time and went through everything." Among the missing items is a collection of swords, a DVD player and a CB radio that belonged to Day's late father. No arrests have been made in either incident. The arson attack remains under investigation. The trailer was torched while Day and Robertson were out shopping. The words "Die Fag" were spray painted on the front steps. (story) Police said at the time that a number of items appeared to have been stolen from the home before the fire was set. A spokesperson for the Lakeland Fire Department said it appears the fire had been set in several areas of the trailer. In both incidents neighbors at the Kings Manor Mobile Home Park claim they saw nothing. The fire was one of a series of arson attacks on the LGBT community in the South this summer. In the course of a month fires were set at a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-friendly church in Middlebrook, Virginia, gay bars in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Brownsville, Texas. In a letter to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs says the bureau should investigate all of the arsons collectively. (story) ©365Gay.com 2005 links
