(New York City) Two Long Island men have been arrested and charged with luring gay men to a rest stop on the Long Island Expressway, where they would beat and rob them, Suffolk County police said.

Victor Lopez, 18, and David Andrade, 19, both of Copiague, were charged with robbery and unlawful imprisonment as hate crimes.

Police said the pair would wait at the rest area off Exit 49 in Melville, a known gay cruising spot.

Police said the two men would promise the potential victim a sexual encounter. But once they got to a secluded area, the two would beat and rob the victim, taking wallets, ATM cards and cash, police said.

One of the men would drive to an ATM machine to withdraw money, while the second man would stay with the victim, who was bound with duct tape, police said.

Police said the pair would curse the victims, using gay slurs.

Lopez and Andrade were caught after a victim called 911 and gave police a description of the attackers and their car.

An officer spotted the car and arrested the two suspects, Detective Sgt. Robert Reecks said.

Lopez and Andrade are believed to have committed one other robbery at the rest stop on Oct. 3, and police said there could be more victims afraid to come forward.
