(Los Angeles, California) NBC announced on Sunday that "Will & Grace" will go off the air in May. There had been talk for months that this was to be the series last season, but until now NBC had not made an official announcement.

"It is a bittersweet moment for all of us at NBC to confirm that this will be the final season of the comedy 'Will & Grace,'" said NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly in a Sunday night statement that also announced the cancellation of "The West Wing".

Reilly said that "Will & Grace" will have a two-hour finale Thursday, May 18. The first hour, from 8-9 will be a retrospective. The second hour, beginning at 9, will be the final episode.

Sources at the network say the final episode will include a baby and a wedding but they would not be more specific about the plot.

"Will & Grace", the first successful sitcom built around an openly gay character, has been a mainstay of NBC for the show's eight-year run.

It has won14 Emmy Awards, eight GLAAD Media Awards, two TV Guide Awards and one Directors Guild Award.

The "Will & Grace" cast are already working on their futures.

Eric McCormack is doing a comedy called "Lovespring" for Lifetime. Megan Mullally will get her own talk show in the fall. Sean Hayes has been trying his hand at producing and Debra Messing is eyeing a film career.
