Gay Foes Increase Pressure On Ford

(Washington) A conservative Christian group has joined the boycott against Ford Motor Company and says it intends to lobby the beleaguered firm's investors.

The Fort Lauderdale-based Center for Reclaiming America for Christ claims to have 800,000 members across the country. This week it joined a boycott led by the American Family Association in demanding the automaker stop funding the LGBT media and supporting gay causes.

The CRAC brings to 20 the number of groups involved in the boycott. In announcing it was joining the action the organization said it is distributing a petition to its members and expects to present it to shareholders at Ford's annual meeting May 11.

"If Ford wishes to disregard its values-oriented clientele, then the company should be prepared to do without our hard earned dollars," said Gary Cass, Executive Director for the Center.

"Each of our purchases is like casting ‘dollar votes’ for the types of companies we want to support. Unfortunately for Ford's dealers, employees, and stockholders, Ford Motor Company is no longer worthy of our support."

After postponing the boycott last year the AFA reinstated it last month (story) accusing the company of reneging on a promise to end its associations with LGBT organizations.

The CRAC said that it expects to have collected at least 50,000 names on its petition and will attempt to have it entered into the minutes of the Ford's annual meeting.

It would be the second anti-gay measure to come before shareholders this year.

An investor named Robert Hurley of Alton, Ill will introduce a motion to drop protections for LGBT workers from the company's human resources regulations. (story)

The company had fought the motion but Alton took the issue to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission which ruled the automaker must put the resolution to a shareholder vote.
