TalonRider Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 5-Year-Old Gets Jury Summons Even though the law requires Pierce County, Wash., jurors to be 18 years old, the county recently ordered a 5-year-old boy to appear for jury duty. The Tacoma News-Tribune reports the county issued a summons to Carson Lee Livingston to appear in Superior Court July 10. When mom Dawn Schauer went online to try to get her son excused, she found his birth date listed as 1900 instead of 2000. "I know it's hard to get jurors, but this is really getting down there," Schauer told the newspaper. "They're really getting desperate to get people." She said she was tempted to take her son down to the courthouse and tell court administrators to make sure they had plenty of snacks on hand. The problem apparently started with a state ID card issued with the incorrect birth date when the family took a trip to Canada when Carson was just 9-months-old. The error was supposed to have been fixed. United Press International
