(Dayton, Ohio) A man man has been convicted in the death of a Minnesota man whose handcuffed, decomposed body was found in a basement in August 2004.

Matthew Morgan Caddy, 53, of Dayton, pleaded no contest to reckless homicide, gross abuse of a corpse and possession of criminal tools in the death of Daniel Rodney Everson, 43, of Litchfield, Minn.

The plea cut Caddy's trial short and he was then found guilty by Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Jack Davis. Caddy faces up to seven years in prison and is to be sentenced Sept. 12.

Police found Everson's naked, decomposed body in Caddy's basement. Everson's wrists were locked in handcuffs, fastened to a rope tied to a piece of wood on the floor next to his body, according to evidence presented at Caddy's trial.

Dr. Bryan Casto of the Montgomery County coroner's office said Everson appeared to have been dead for five to 10 days when his body was found. He said beatings caused Everson's kidneys to fail from being overwhelmed by proteins secreted from his back and shoulder muscles.

Assistant Montgomery County Prosecutor Daniel Brandt told the jury that Everson left Minnesota on Aug. 8, 2004, on a bus to visit Caddy following correspondence over the Internet.
