movieguy
Westbound I-70 Reopened After Pa.Overpass Collapse Eastbound Lanes Will Remain Closed (AP) WASHINGTON, Pa. Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 have reopened in the Washington County area that was shut down because of an overpass collapse. But state police say eastbound lanes will not reopen until at least tomorrow. The 45-year-old Lakeview Drive Bridge had been rated structurally deficient by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. PennDOT official Gary Hoffman says the bridge had been hit several times underneath by trucks that were too high to pass beneath it, but investigators still aren’t sure if that’s why it collapsed. Hoffman says crews must still study the ruins to determine why the overpass collapsed. Nothing that happened last night caused the problem, instead, the overpass just collapsed under its own weight.
