movieguy Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Illegal gamblers busted by pet dog From correspondents in Bangkok September 10, 2004 A THAI woman's vehement denials that she was running an illegal gambling network were scuppered when her pet poodle was found playing with betting slips in her back garden, police said. A police raid at the home of Yindee Paichana, 49, revealed nothing until officers examined more closely the bits of paper that were being batted around the garden by her dog, said Captain Prateung Phumphuang. Yindee was accused of running a stock exchange betting operation, a widespread but illegal practice in Thailand, where punters lay bets on the expected outcome of the day's trading. Officers said they believed she had hidden most of the slips kept at her home in the southern province of Trang but missed the ones her dog was playing with. They said Yindee, who continued to deny running a gambling ring, faced a month in jail if convicted. Agence France-Presse This report appears on NEWS.com.au. news.au.com Quote
